Family poultry farming dominates indigenous chicken production in the country. Poultry roam freely around most villages foraging for scraps and insects. Saffron Aid is training villagers to build simple, above ground, chicken coops to help increase the life span of the chicken and to protect the eggs from predators such as rats etc.
By using puppet shows we hope to teach villagers new farming techniques and ideas.
We also want to teach animal husbandry to bring awareness of diseases that may appear in the flock.
